The processor of a laptop is considered as its brain since all the ‘thinking and control’ processes are made there. In other words, we can say that a processor decides all the functions including the speed, productivity, power usage, etc of a laptop. While buying a computer one should make sure that it has a powerful processor according to your purpose other than just relying on a brand name, appearance, etc. The efficiency of a processor is based on two factors: performance and cost. 

Terms Related to the Processor 

Before seeing different types of processor laptops available you should be familiar with these terms. This will make your job a lot easier. 

Cores: A core is a processor within a processor. 

Cache: It is a portion of memory made of high-speed static RAM (SRAM) to assist various programs to access the same data frequently to speed up repetitive tasks. 

Clock Speed: The number of cycles that the CPU can execute per second. Measured in gigahertz(GHz). 

TDP or Thermal Design Power or Thermal Design Point: It is the maximum amount of heat generated by a component of the computer that its cooling system can to disperse under any workload. 

Hyper-Threading: The process in which a CPU splits each physical Core into virtual Cores threads is called Hyper-Threading. Each virtual core is known as a thread. 

Turbo Boost: It is an Intel trademark technology enabling the processor to run faster than its configured processing speed/limit. 

vPro: It is a term used by manufacturers for a set of built-in computer hardware technology features like a turbo boost.

Here we are going to classify processors based on 3 different parameters: 

1. The number of cores 

2. The data bus width 

3. The manufacturing brand 

Different types of processors in laptop based on the number Of Cores: 

Single-Core Processor: A single-core processor is basically a microprocessor with a single core on a chip, running only a single task (thread) at a time. That means a single-core processor will fetch the instructions, processes or executes them and writes back it within a single core. But since the arrival of multi-core processors, these are on the verge of expiration. 

Multi-Core Processor: Multi-core processors as the name indicates will have more than two cores in it, each performing separate tasks at the same time. For example, take the case of your brain- it has two parts, right? The left and right. These two parts work together simultaneously to perform all the works more efficiently. That’s what multicores also do. 

All the laptops available in the market today have dual-core processors. With the introduction of 8th Gen Core, mainstream i5 and i7 laptops will now have four cores.

Different types of processors in Laptop based on the data bus width: 

Data bus width denotes the amount of data (in bits) the data bus can transfer at a time to and from the motherboard chipset or system memory. The more bits of data a processor can process at one go, the faster it is. Even though 4bit, 8 bit, 16bit processors are seen older models, nowadays almost all processors are 32 bit or 64-bit ones.

Intel

Intel has always been in its top game in the processor manufacturing industry. They have 4 main lines, each with a set of Core generations-i3s, i5s, i7s and i9, the best gaming and creation laptop processor. One thing you need to remember is that i7 doesn’t always have to be better than i5. For example, the H-Series quad-core i5 processor laptops are more powerful than U-Series quad-core i7 processor laptops. There are different series ranging from G to U each designated to improve the multitasking performance.
