Why won’t my music play through USB in my car?

This article explains what to do if you can’t connect your iPhone to your car. If no USB playback occurs after reconnecting the device.

1. Check Software Update

Check that your iPhone is running the most recent version of iOS. Select Settings > General > Software Update from the menu. I also advise you to enable Automatic Updates.

2. Check your USB cable

  1. Remove and reconnect the USB cable.
  2. If possible, try a different USB cable.
  3. If possible, try a different USB port.
  4. Examine your cable for signs of wear and tear. If your cable appears to be damaged, do not use it.
  5. Remove any debris from the charging port on the bottom of your iPhone and the USB port.

3. Restart iPhone

Just restart your iPhone. Retry after restarting. Restart the car stereo as well. You can do this by holding down the power button. I also recommend that you reset the audio system in your car. To learn more about this process, you should read the owner’s manual. I also recommend that you make sure your stereo is running the most recent firmware. Again, you should consult the manual for more information.

4. Turn off EQ

Some users have reported that by turning off the EQ, the music problem was resolved. Follow these steps on your iPhone:

  1. Select Settings.
  2. Select Music.
  3. Tap EQ.
  4. Choose Off.

5. Reset All Settings

If this problem keeps happening, you might want to reset all your settings. This won’t get rid of what you have. But all of your settings and preferences will be lost. Your music won’t be taken away. Go to Settings, General, Transfer or Reset iPhone, Reset, and then Reset All Settings on your iPhone. Then follow the instructions on the screen.
