This article explains what to do if you can’t connect your iPhone to your car. If no USB playback occurs after reconnecting the device.
1. Check Software Update
Check that your iPhone is running the most recent version of iOS. Select Settings > General > Software Update from the menu. I also advise you to enable Automatic Updates.
2. Check your USB cable
- Remove and reconnect the USB cable.
- If possible, try a different USB cable.
- If possible, try a different USB port.
- Examine your cable for signs of wear and tear. If your cable appears to be damaged, do not use it.
- Remove any debris from the charging port on the bottom of your iPhone and the USB port.
3. Restart iPhone
Just restart your iPhone. Retry after restarting. Restart the car stereo as well. You can do this by holding down the power button. I also recommend that you reset the audio system in your car. To learn more about this process, you should read the owner’s manual. I also recommend that you make sure your stereo is running the most recent firmware. Again, you should consult the manual for more information.
4. Turn off EQ
Some users have reported that by turning off the EQ, the music problem was resolved. Follow these steps on your iPhone:
- Select Settings.
- Select Music.
- Tap EQ.
- Choose Off.

5. Reset All Settings
If this problem keeps happening, you might want to reset all your settings. This won’t get rid of what you have. But all of your settings and preferences will be lost. Your music won’t be taken away. Go to Settings, General, Transfer or Reset iPhone, Reset, and then Reset All Settings on your iPhone. Then follow the instructions on the screen.
If the USB device doesn’t show up on your stereo, disconnect and reconnect it. If the device won’t play after being plugged back in, check the following: Make sure there is something on the USB device. Make sure that your stereo can read the files on your USB stick.
If your car supports CarPlay through the USB port, plug your iPhone into the USB port of your car or stereo. There might be a CarPlay icon or a smartphone icon next to the USB port. If your car has wireless CarPlay, you can set up CarPlay by pressing and holding the voice command button on your steering wheel.
Some devices are set up to switch to a mode that uses less power when the battery is getting low. This could turn off Bluetooth on your phone, which would cut it off from your car. In this case, you can either manually turn Bluetooth back on on your phone or charge it so you can keep listening to music.
Start up both your iPhone and your car. Link your iPhone or iPad to a different stereo USB port (if you have one). Change the Lightning to USB cable you are using. Update your iOS device.
If CarPlay can’t find your iPhone, make sure CarPlay isn’t turned off. Go to Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions, tap Allowed Apps, and make sure CarPlay is turned on. Go to Settings > General > CarPlay, tap your car, and then tap Forget This Car. Set CarPlay up again.
