Why Ani Breaks Up With Luke, Luckiest Girl Alive: The ending of Luckiest Girl Alive wraps up the main character’s rough journey through trauma in a satisfying way. Based on Jessica Knoll’s first book, Luckiest Girl Alive is about a New York journalist named Ani, played by Ted’s Mila Kunis, whose life falls apart because of a traumatic event from her past.

Luckiest Girl Alive, which tells Ani’s story, leaves many parts of her past mysterious on purpose and only shows glimpses of the traumatic event that changed her life.

All of these parts come together at the end of Luckiest Girl Alive, when it’s finally clear why Ani works so hard to make herself a perfect, well-controlled present. The final act forces her to break down this perfect facade and gives her a new sense of direction that is much more fulfilling and freeing than the trauma-filled life she had before.

In the Netflix psychological thriller, Ani goes through a lot of hard times, but in the end, she finds the courage and will to get over her past and plan for a better future.

Why Ani Breaks Up With Luke in Luckiest Girl Alive

Even though Ani really wants to be with Luke, she has to break up with him when he stops her from starting over. Almost all of her life, other people’s stories and decisions about what she should do have shaped what she does.

Luke (Finn Wittrock from the cast of Deep Water) and his family don’t seem to like it when she talks about her scary past and how it has affected her life, so she breaks up with Luke and stays in New York City to start writing for The New York Times instead of moving to London with him.

By doing this, she puts a long, sad chapter of her life to rest and starts a new one on her own terms.
