Who Is Rhaenyra Targaryen Dragon In House Of The Dragon: Fans of Game of Thrones had to wait until the last episode of the first season to see Daenerys Targaryen’s baby dragons for the first time. House of the Dragon, on the other hand, hasn’t wasted any time showing off its huge dragons that breathe fire.

Rhaenyra and Daemon Targaryen ride their winged beasts into the sky in the first episode. Like Daenerys’s dragons in Game of Thrones, these winged beasts have their own names and stories in Westeros.

But what does Rhaenyra’s dragon’s name mean, and what can fans expect from it during House of the Dragon?

Who Is Rhaenyra Targaryen Dragon In House Of The Dragon?

Syrax is the name of Rhaenyra Targaryen’s dragon.

Who Is Rhaenyra Targaryen’s Dragon In House Of The Dragon?

Rhaenyra was the only one who rode the female dragon with yellow scales. She chose Syrax as her mount when she was only seven years old.

Rhaenyra even gave Syrax her name, choosing to name her after a Valyrian goddess.

As the mount of the Targaryen princess, Syrax was well taken care of and fed. During the Targaryen Civil War, he was kept in an old stable inside the walls of the Red Keep instead of in the Dragonpit with the other dragons.

Where we see Syrax in House of the Dragon

In the first episode of “House of the Dragon,” we see Syrax twice.

The first one is when Rhaenyra is introduced and we see her riding Syrax through the sky above King’s Landing, high above the streets below.

As House of the Dragon starts at the height of the Targaryen dynasty’s power, it’s interesting to see that the dragon doesn’t seem to bother anyone on the ground. Dragons would have been a common sight at the time.

Syrax shows up again later in the episode at the funeral of King Viserys’s wife, Aemma, and their newborn son, Baelon.

Rhaenyra lights the funeral pyre with Syrax, just like a Targaryen would.

What happened to Syrax in House of the Dragon

Rhaenyra used Syrax as her mount during the Targaryen Civil War, also called the Dance of Dragons. This war broke out after King Viserys died and the line of succession became unclear.

Rhaenyra was able to take King’s Landing without much resistance because she used the dragon to her advantage.

During her life, Syrax laid a lot of eggs, many of which grew up to be dragons that Rhaeyra’s children rode when they were old enough.

But Rhaenyra didn’t always have Syrax by her side. When King’s Landing was in chaos, Syrax was killed during the Storming of the Dragonpit.

A group of angry people broke into the Dragonpit and killed the four dragons that lived there.

Rhaenyra’s son Joffrey (not the one from Game of Thrones) tried to ride Syrax to stop the riots, but dragons can only carry one rider at a time, so Joffrey was thrown off and killed.

Once Syrax got to the Dragonpit, she tried to fight the crowd with her teeth and claws instead of breathing fire from above, which led to her being overpowered and killed.
