Who Is Laurel Gates In Wednesday? The murders that keep happening at Nevermore Academy and in the nearby town of Jericho are at the center of the Wednesday series on Netflix.
With the help of a few hints from the ghost of her ancestor, Goody Addams, Wednesday figures out that the Gates family, and especially Laurel Gates, are involved, even though they are supposed to be dead.
But who is Laurel Gates and what does she and her family have to do with Wednesday’s murder mystery?
Who Is Laurel Gates In Wednesday?
Garrett Gates’s little sister is Laurel.
She was said to have drowned overseas years ago, and a fake death certificate was made to prove this.
But thanks to hints from Goody Addams, Wednesday’s research into the Jericho killing spree has led her to think that Laurel is still alive and has come back to finish what her family started.
But Wednesday is quick to jump to conclusions, and she thinks at first that her therapist, Dr. Kinbott, is the returning Laurel. This assumption turns out to be wrong.
The True Identity of Laurel Is Exposed
In the last episode of Wednesday’s first season, it’s revealed that the friendly newbie teacher at Nevermore, Ms. Marilyn Thornhill, has been Laurel the whole time.
Wednesday makes the connection when she talks to her friend Eugene, who is in the hospital getting better after being hurt by a mysterious person.
Eugene says that the person who attacked him wore red boots, just like Marilyn, and Wednesday finally figures out that Ms. Thornhill is really Laurel.
On top of that, it turns out that Laurel has been controlling the Hyde monster the whole time it has been killing people in Jericho. This means that she has been behind the killing spree the whole time.
During Wednesday, it comes out that the Gates family used to be one of Jericho’s most powerful families.
They are related to Joseph Crackstone, who started the town. Because of this, they have had a lot of power in the area for hundreds of years.
The family had hated Nevermore Academy and outcasts in general for a long time. This came from what Crackstone himself thought.
Garrett, a member of the Gates family, is one of the most well-known people in Wednesday. In 1990, he was killed when he tried to poison the Nevermore students at a school dance.
Garrett died by accident when the vial of poison he was carrying was crushed against his skin during a fight with a young Gomez Addams. Gomez took the blame for Garrett’s death to protect his then-girlfriend Morticia.
After Garrett died, the Gates family fell apart. By the time Wednesday’s story starts, everyone is thought to be dead.
