Who Is La Barbie? Since the notorious drug lord La Barbie doesn’t seem to be in the custody of the U.S. Federal Bureau of Prisons, there is more confusion about where he is.

The US BOP database does not list Édgar Valdez Villarreal, also known as “La Barbie,” even though he is supposed to be in prison until 2056.

The Mexican Attorney General’s Office and the Foreign Affairs Secretariat both told EL PAS that they did not know what La Barbie’s legal situation was.

Who Is La Barbie?

La Barbie is a Mexican-American who used to be a drug lord and a high-ranking member of the Beltrán Leyva Cartel, which no longer exists.

He was born and raised in Laredo, Texas. He was said to be “very popular” in high school, where his football coach gave him his famous nickname because his blonde hair and blue eyes made him look like a Ken doll.

At the age of 19, the drug lord was arrested for the first time in Texas. He was charged with criminally negligent homicide for killing a middle school counselor with his speeding truck, but he was not indicted.

El PAS reports that the former cartel leader does not appear to be in the custody of the US BOP. A spokesperson for the US corrections agency told the newspaper, “There are a number of reasons why an inmate may be listed as “not in the custody of the Bureau of Prisons.”

“Prisoners who have been in the care of the Bureau of Prisons but haven’t finished their sentences may be out of custody for a while so they can go to court hearings, get medical care, or do something else.

“For security and privacy reasons, we do not give specific information about the status of prisoners who are not in the care of the Bureau of Prisons.”

Also, the US Embassy in Mexico hasn’t said anything official.
