Maggie Bell is still getting better off-screen after almost dying from a toxic dose of sarin gas in episode 18 of season 4 of FBI.
Maggie and OA spent the whole episode trying to find a dangerous terrorist who had a deadly nerve agent and was hiding it.
The two find their target, a man named Hakeen Abbas, but when Maggie tries to talk to him, he pulls out a gun and forces her to kill him.
Hakeen dropped a canister of sarin gas in the process, trapping Maggie in the room as the poisonous nerve agent spread.
Maggie was very lucky to have survived the attack because OA was able to free her, but she was in a bad way and needed a lot of medical care before she could go back to work.
As season 5 begins, Maggie is still getting better from what almost killed her.
Why Doesn’t Miss Peregrym Come Back Yet?
Maggie almost died on the show, but actress Missy Peregrym is currently on maternity leave, which is a much happier reason for her absence.
Missy told everyone on social media in February that she was expecting her second child. On June 6, 2022, she gave birth to her second child.
Missy told the world in a sweet Instagram post that she and her husband, Tom Oakley, had a daughter named Mela Joséphine Oakley. This is their second child together, after having a boy named Otis in March 2020.
In an interview with Variety, FBI showrunner Rick Eid talked about Missy’s break from the show. He said, “Basically, I told her, ‘Tell us what you want and what you need, and we’ll do our best to make it happen.'” She felt great and wanted to work as much as possible.
“We had a pretty good idea of when she was going to leave, so it was just a matter of finding the right episode and plot to go with that. I thought the idea of killing her with sarin gas was a fun and exciting way to do it.
“We just wanted to find a way to send her off in a way that made sense in the made-up worlds we live in and let her come back when she’s physically ready to.”
Missy Peregrym’s first stint of maternity leave
Fans of FBI who have watched the show for a long time will remember that Maggie has been away from the show before. She was on an undercover mission at the end of season 2 when she wasn’t there.
In reality, the mission was a way for Missy Peregrym to avoid taking her first maternity leave after giving birth to Otis, the son she had with Tom Oakley.
Missy wasn’t in the last few episodes of Season 2, but she came back in the first episode of Season 3.
This time, Maggie’s absence is much more noticeable because she will miss the first few episodes of season 5 and the last few chapters of season 4.
