Where is Franklin Floyd now? What happened to Sevakis and Brandenburg?

Netflix’s Girl in the Picture is a documentary about a true crime that spans decades and exposes the kind of abuse that is more commonly associated with works of fiction.

The tale is horrifying and upsetting, and perhaps most disturbing of all, it is incomplete. A guy named Franklin Floyd is at the heart of this sad story. The documentary makes a point of highlighting the heinous acts that Floyd committed, which are responsible for the destruction of the lives of a significant number of people. Where is Floyd at this time? This is what we currently know.

Where is Franklin Floyd now?

The good thing is that Floyd is currently being housed at the Union Correctional Institution in Raiford, which is located in the state of Florida. Floyd’s traumatic childhood is described in heartbreaking detail in the book “A Beautiful Child: A True Story of Hope, Horror, and an Enduring Human Spirit” written by Matt Birkbeck. This description serves as a prologue to Floyd’s criminal behavior. We also gain knowledge on his victims, of whom one was never located after the crime.

Floyd and his brothers were placed in an orphanage when he was just three years old in 1946 since his mother was a single parent and could no longer care for them. Floyd was allegedly subjected to sexual assault and physical torture at this establishment.

Floyd broke into a Sears store when he was 16 years old with the intention of taking a rifle from the establishment. Floyd was allegedly subjected to so much sexual assault in prison that he contemplated taking his own life after being apprehended and sent there for his crimes.

Floyd finally became a fugitive after failing to appear for a court hearing in which he was charged with attacking a young woman in 1973. This occurred more than a decade later, after he had already been transferred from one prison to another.

Floyd first encountered Sandi Chipman at a truck stop in North Carolina. At the time, Floyd was evading capture and used the alias “Brandon Williams.” She was a mother to four children, the youngest of whom was just a few months old. After dating for a month, the couple tied the knot, and then they moved to Dallas.

What happened to Sevakis and Brandenburg?

According to A Beautiful Child, Chipman was never able to find Sevakis, and it wasn’t until 2019 that a man who thought he was Brandenburg came forward as an adult and was identified via DNA.

The events surrounding Sevakis were significantly more violent, and they culminated in her death several years later. In spite of the fact that he sexually abused Sevakis throughout her youth, Floyd brought her up as his daughter.

In 1987, when Sevakis was a senior in high school, she was listed in the yearbook under the name Sharon Marshall. Since then, she has gone by this name. Sevakis’s name would be changed for a third time, this time to “Tonya Hughes,” at the time of her marriage to Floyd, which occurred two years after the first name change.

She lived in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where Sevakis (now Tonya) worked at a strip club, and she had a kid named Michael. Floyd claimed that Michael was his son. Floyd also claimed that Michael was her son.

In April of 1990, Sevakis made an attempt to end her relationship with Floyd and move on with a young college student she had been dating.

Before the month of May in the year 1990, Sevakis’s body would have been discovered lying on the shoulder of a highway outside of Oklahoma City. Between the time that she was kidnapped and the time that she was killed, Sevakis would also be implicated in another murder alongside Floyd. How did this happen? The novel Girl in the Picture delves more into a plot about which we have only just begun to scrape the surface.
