South Carolina Abortion Law: Nikki Haley, a former U.N. ambassador and the governor of South Carolina, announced on February 14 that she is running for president. She is the first major Republican candidate to run against former President Donald Trump in the party’s primary.
Haley said, “It’s time for a new generation of leadership,” in a video she posted on social media to announce her run for president in 2024.
The Haley campaign planned a formal launch event for Feb. 15 in Charleston, S.C., followed by events on Feb. 16 and 17 in New Hampshire and later in the month in Iowa. These are all important states in the GOP presidential primary process because they are the first to vote.
In a video that was about three and a half minutes long, Haley criticized “the socialist left” and said that China and Russia were dangerous.

Haley said that the Republican Party needs to return to “the values that still make our country the most free and best in the world.”
“In seven of the last eight presidential elections, the popular vote went to the other party,” Haley said. “That has to be different.”
President Joe Biden, a Catholic who is predicted to run for a second term as the Democratic nominee in November 2024, will likely face the winner of the GOP presidential primary.
Haley said that Biden’s record was very bad.
She said, “That shouldn’t be a surprise.” “The people in charge in Washington have let us down over and over and over again. It’s time for a new generation of leaders to get back to being responsible with money, secure our border, and make our country, pride, and purpose stronger.
Haley was raised as a Sikh, but when she was a young adult, she became a Christian.
Haley would be the first woman to be nominated for president by the Republican Party if she wins the primary.
Haley signed the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act into law when she was governor of South Carolina. This law makes it illegal to have most abortions in the state after 20 weeks. The state Supreme Court threw out a six-week ban that South Carolina lawmakers tried to put in place after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned the 1973 Roe v.
Wade decision that said abortion was a constitutional right. This means that law is still in place.
In a statement, Jaime Harrison, chair of the Democratic National Committee, said that Haley’s decision to run “officially kicks off a messy 2024 primary race for the MAGA base that has been brewing for a long time.” Get your popcorn, everyone.”
Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America, an organization that works to elect pro-life candidates, said in a statement that Haley’s “strong pro-life, pro-woman leadership” “stands in contrast to the false ‘feminism’ of abortion advocates.”
Dannenfelser said, “As governor of South Carolina, she signed a law to stop late-term abortions when unborn babies can feel pain, and she has continued to push for our laws to catch up with what most Americans and the rest of the civilized world agree on.”

She feels deeply that every person’s life is valuable, and she talks openly about this when she talks about the good and bad parts of being a mother and having a family. Dannenfelser said that after Roe, “we need a president who will fight for minimum federal standards to protect unborn children and their mothers across the country from the horror of abortion.”
