Soldier: 76 is mostly the same in Overwatch 2 as he was in the first game. Fans who play him in this version will notice that he plays pretty much the same and is still a reliable and easy-to-use hero. But there were some changes made to how much damage Soldier: 76’s pulse rifle does and to his Ultimate Ability that will make him more like other DPS heroes. Overall, he is still a good choice, and he can be used on almost any Overwatch 2 team.
Pulse Heavy Rifle
The Heavy Pulse Rifle is the main weapon of Soldier: 76. It is a hitscan weapon that is accurate and reliable. This means that players don’t have to worry about projectiles, which makes it easier to hit fast or flying targets like Pharah and Mercy.
Even though it fires quickly, it is very accurate, and even though its official description says otherwise, it has vertical recoil. The Heavy Pulse Rifle fires 30 rounds all at once and has a magazine that holds 30 rounds.
Between 6 and 18 damage is done in each round (reduced from 20 in the original Overwatch). It does the most damage in the middle ranges and less damage between 30 and 50 meters. Because of this, players won’t want to fight with heroes like Widowmaker who have a longer range.
Helix Rockets
Helix Rockets are the Heavy Pulse Rifle’s secondary fire mode. They can do a lot of damage to targets in their area of effect. When used, Soldier: 76 fires the rockets in a single burst that does 120 damage to a direct hit and up to 80 damage to anything in a 3-meter radius.
Soldier: 76 can also hurt himself with these rockets, so he should be careful when using them up close. Helix Rockets, on the other hand, can be used to quickly kill a target with low health or just to add some burst damage to Soldier: 76’s arsenal. Helix Rockets take 6 seconds to be able to be used again.
Sprint
With Sprint, Soldier: 76 has a quick and reliable way to just move faster. When Soldier: 76 uses Sprint, it gives him a 50% speed boost when moving. The time lasts as long as Soldier: 76 keeps moving forward without doing anything else. Sprint doesn’t have a cooldown, and Soldier: 76 can use it as long as he isn’t shooting or using his abilities. He can use this to get to a fight or get away from one if he needs to.
Biotic Field
When Soldier: 76 uses Biotic Field, he puts down a biotic emitter that heals 35 HP for himself and any nearby allies within a 4.5-meter radius. This ability gives him more health than many other DPS heroes, and he can also use it to help his team’s support. Last but not least, Tactical Visor has been changed so that Soldier: 76 can now aim for the head of his target while it is active to do more damage.
