Robert Blake, an actor best known for his part in Little Rascals, died on Thursday, his niece Noreen Austin said in a statement. He was 89.

Robert Blake, an actor whose long career in movies and TV was ruined by a well-known murder trial, has died at the age of 89.

Blake died in Los Angeles, his niece Noreen said Thursday on CBS News. She said he died of heart disease and that he “passed away peacefully with family and friends.”

The coroner’s office in Los Angeles County told CBS News that it “did not have a report” on Blake’s death.

A statement from the coroner’s office said, “Due to his age and reported medical history, his death may not fall under our jurisdiction.”

Before he was tried and found not guilty of killing his wife, Blake was best known for the 1970s TV show “Baretta,” for which he won an Emmy for best actor in 1975, and for his last movie role, in “Lost Highway” in 1997.
