On the third step of these Research Tasks, the streak gets broken, or the Mystic Hero’s Special Research starts over. At some point, all of your progress will go back to zero. Even though it doesn’t take you back to the first step of the research, it does completely start over with the third step.
It could happen at any time, or it might not happen at all. It seems like almost everything you do for Special Research is a coin toss.
At the time this was written, no one knew what caused the glitch, and there was no known way to fix it besides starting over. But you can’t because the event is coming to an end.
So, that’s pretty much all we know about the Pokemon GO Mystic Hero Special research reset/streak broken issue. I know, to say the least, it’s not the best.
Just the latest in a long line of mistakes made by Niantic. Even though a glitched event isn’t the end of the world, the fact that it happened when the players and the developer were already arguing doesn’t make things any better.
The only real way to fix the problem would be for Niantic to fix the bug.
But I don’t think they will, since Mystic Hero is coming to an end. The only “fix” left is to forget about that Lapras and just keep going.
