Pearl 2022 Ending Explained: Pearl explains how that couple became so murderous. Its predecessor took a lot from old horror movies like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, but Pearl goes in a different direction. It is much more like The Wizard of Oz. Only, you know, with a lot of guts and blood.

It takes place in 1918, and Mia Goth plays Pearl, a simple farm girl who dreams of becoming a star. Problem is, her husband (Alistair Sewell) is fighting in World War I, her father (Matthew Sunderland) has the Spanish flu, and her strict mother (Tandi Wright) needs Pearl’s help to keep their struggling farm going.

Even though she seems happy, Pearl feels trapped. She sneaks out of the house whenever she can to go to the movies, where she dreams of one day being a dancer on-screen.

But it isn’t long before the cracks start to show. Early on, she kills a farm animal out of random bloodlust, and later, she has a surprisingly intimate moment with a scarecrow. Something’s wrong, and Pearl knows it. She just does not know how to fix it.

Does Pearl 2022 have post credit scene?

Goth’s performance of Pearl as a wide-eyed farm girl is very convincing, but both she and the movie are at their most interesting when her character struggles to see and experience the real world as everyone else does.

Goth’s reaction in a key scene about a dance audition is heartbreaking. The way West lets these character moments breathe puts the audience right there with Pearl, who has trouble understanding how painful the world can be for people who don’t know how to deal with it.

Even though we know how Pearl’s story ends, we feel the same fear and unease that she does about the things that lead up to her murder.

West walks a fine line here as he tries to make us feel sorry for a hero who is destined to become a cruel villain. Once he gets past the first act’s visual references to X, which were a bit distracting, West moves the story forward on firmer ground as he digs deeper into Pearl’s fragile mental health through her crush on The Projectionist (David Corenswet).

There’s more to come, too. After Pearl comes Maxxxine, which is a direct sequel to X. (I know, the titles are confusing.) In Maxxxine, Goth plays Maxine again as she tries to make it in LA. From the first teaser, it’s clear that Maxxxine will have a ’80s feel. This will give West’s growing slasher story another flavor and give Goth another chance to show why she’s one of horror’s most promising new villains.
