When Cape Town ETC asked Unilever about the news, the company said it was true, citing “high inflationary costs of importing and low consumer demand.”

Richard Hellman and his wife Margaret started Hellman’s Mayonnaise in New York in 1913. Since then, it has become popular all over the world, including in Latin America and the United Kingdom.

Even though the product is being taken off the shelves in South Africa, mayo fans in other countries don’t have to worry because Hellmann’s Mayo will still be available in their countries.
