The Menu is a dark comedy thriller starring Ralph Fiennes and Anya Taylor-Joy. I had a chance to see it before it came out, and here’s what I thought about it:
Even though it was great to have parallel characters with their own story arcs, this was the one thing I thought the setting didn’t do enough with.
Three tech brothers who are involved in some shady money laundering, an indulgent food critic, an aging movie star, and a couple who are having trouble with their relationship all get one great scene in one of the courses that lets them shine and tells us about their pasts, but that’s about it.
Other than Leguizamo, who gets a few extra things to play with, none of the other interesting characters have too much to do, even though they drop hints.
The Menu is one of the craziest movies I’ve seen in the past few years, but in the best way possible. It satisfies your hunger for delicious, thrilling content and great acting, but it might also leave you a little bit hungry.

The Menu doesn’t have a lot of original ideas or thrills, but it’s rarely boring. It shows violence in the kitchen that makes no sense. It’s deep-fried junk that looks like good food. It might not fill you up completely, but it will help.
