Darian Jarrott Video Viral : A new video shows the scary moment when a New Mexico police officer is shot and killed during a traffic stop.
The dashcam video of state police officer Darrian Jarrott’s car shows him approaching a Chevy pickup truck on Interstate 10 on Feb. 4 and talking to the driver, who had been pulled over because his windows were too darkly darkened.
News reports say that during a calm conversation that lasts several minutes, the driver says his name is Omar Felix Cueva and admits he has a gun in the car.
“Is it okay if I take it from you to keep myself safe?” Jarrott can be heard asking Cueva in video that is available online.
When things get dangerous, Jarrott, who was standing on the passenger side of the truck, asks Cueva to follow him back to his police car so he can check Cueva’s name.

Cueva gets out of the truck with a gun like an AR-15 and starts shooting.
The cop can be heard saying, “Oh, s–t!” before he falls to the ground.
Cueva, 39, took off, leaving Jarrott on the side of the road, and led New Mexico police on a 40-mile high-speed race before he was killed in a shootout with police.
KVIA-TV said that Jarrott, a five-year member of the force, pulled Cueva over because he was on his way to a drug deal and had “a violent criminal history.” State police said that Cueva had “a violent criminal history,” and that he was on his way to a drug deal when he was stopped.
“Even when things were hard, the guy always had a smile on his face,” New Mexico State Police Chief Robert Thornton said of Jarrott after he died.
Another state police officer was hurt, but his injuries did not threaten his life.
