Are There Train Strikes On December 3rd And 4th?

by Ami Dalsania

Are There Train Strikes On December 3rd And 4th? Over the holiday season, there will be more train strikes, and many people are wondering if there will be work stoppages on December 3 and 4.

Most of us are busiest in December, when Christmas parties and events happen all over the country.

At Christmas, many people in England use the train to visit family and friends, so the new train strikes will cause chaos.

Since June 2022, there have been strikes, making it impossible to plan anything without first making sure the trains are running.

Next weekend, on December 3 and 4, are there any strikes?

No. Saturday, December 3, and Sunday, December 4, there are no rail strikes scheduled.

So, you’ll be able to do all of your planned Christmas activities that weekend without any problems.

But more strikes are scheduled for December and January. Look at the list of dates below to find out when the strikes will happen.

Train Strike Dates In December And January

There may not be any strikes next weekend, but there will be more as Christmas gets closer. In the next two months, rail workers will go on strike four times for 48 hours each.

The RMT has announced that on the following dates, 40,000 workers from 14 Train Operating Companies will go on strike:

13 and 14 December
December 16 and 17 and January 3 and 4 and January 6 and 7
Right now, there is no list of the train lines that will be affected, but Network Rail is warning people to expect “significant disruption” on these dates and the next day.

“The rail industry is working hard to keep this from having too much of an effect on services, but services will have to be canceled or severely messed up,” they also said.

“Service is likely to be very limited on these days, and some routes may not have any trains at all.”

Why Are Rail Workers Striking?

The new round of strikes was announced by the National Union of Rail, Maritime, and Transport Workers (RMT) because “Network Rail has failed to make an improved offer on jobs, pay, and conditions.”

Staff are on strike over pay, job cuts, working conditions, and changes to pensions. The strikes are still going on because the RMT and industry bosses and Network Rail haven’t come to an agreement.

Mick Lynch, the general secretary of the union, said that the new round of strikes will show “how important” rail workers are to the “running of this country.”

He also said that this will “make it clear that we want a good deal for our people in terms of job security, pay, and working conditions.”

“We’ve been reasonable, but it’s impossible to come to an agreement when the government is in charge of these talks,” he said.

The Strikes page on National Rail is always updated when more strikes are called for rail workers.
