Are There Postal Strikes In December 2022?

The workers at Royal Mail are on strike for seven days in December, including Christmas Eve. This will cause a lot of trouble with Christmas deliveries.

These are the dates:

Thursday, December 1, Friday, December 9, and Sunday, December 11, Wednesday, December 14, Thursday, December 15, and Friday, December 23.
The day is December 24.

What Will Be Delivered On Strike Days?

“We’re sorry that this will likely cause you trouble. Royal Mail said, “We’re doing what we can to keep services running, but customers should expect a lot of trouble.”

Royal Mail says that on days when there are strikes, they will:

  1. As many Special Delivery and Tracked24 packages as possible should be delivered.
  2. COVID test kits and medical prescriptions should be delivered as soon as possible.
  3. Except for Special Delivery, they will not be delivering letters. They are telling people to mail their items as soon as possible before the strike dates.

Why Royal Mail workers are on strike ?

According to the CWU, Royal Mail workers are on strike because they were forced to take a 2% pay cut without agreeing to it.

In a national strike vote over pay, members of the union who work for Royal Mail voted by a 97.6% majority to go on strike.

They want a pay raise that keeps up with the rising cost of living. This is because Royal Mail just announced that the company as a whole made £758 million in profits.

The CWU said, “Our members need it, and our members deserve it. The company can pay for it.” But Keith Williams, the head of Royal Mail, said that the company is losing £1 million a day in July.
